Unable to change the categories on existing posts

  • A client sends me this message:

    “I still can’t change any categories in wordpress for the blogs already
    there. I go to “manage” – I hit “edit” which appears right next to the
    title – I scroll down to the category and delete it, then go back up and hit “save” – When I return to the site, nothing has changed.
    Any suggestions?”

    We once had version 2.2 on the site, now we have version 2.5.1.

    Can anyone think why we’d be unable to edit the category of a post?
