When I try to connect my site to Jetpack, it creates the site connection correctly but when it tries to connect to my wordpress user it fails and winds up at a page just saying

We’re sorry, but an unexpected error has occurred

    • Jetpack test says everything is ok,
    • XMLrpc looks just fine
    • I’ve tried multiple wordpress.com accounts to connect to
    • ive deleted the site connection in jetpack and tried reconnecting repeatedly
    • it seems to be performing serveral retry attempts
    • Javascript console on https://wordpress.com/jetpack/connect/authorize? (which is where the error occurs) has some clues maybe?

TypeError: Failed to construct ‘URL’: Invalid URL at Ve.getSiteCard (jetpack-connect.d30042bafc704c5747c5.min.js:1:64294)
(i tried a console debug session, it looks like the url being passed is null)
Channel: Error in handleResponse UNK/SW_UNREACHABLE REGISTER_FRAME undefined
ContentScriptFrames.js:2 Uncaught (in promise) Error: Could not establish connection. Receiving end does not exist.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hi.

I got the exact same error “Channel: Error in handleResponse UNK/SW_UNREACHABLE REGISTER_FRAME undefined” when I run my react application in Chrome.

I don’t know what this error means and its cause, but I solved this issue by disabling all my chrome extensions.

    Using any Chrome extensions?

    Try disabling them.

Thanks, good idea, unfortunately it didn’t work.

Tried disabling all chrome extensions, no luck. Tried it in a clean Edge session as well just in case it was a browser issue, no such luck. Tried it on a different PC as well as a phone, always the same error.

    Hi @drakkheim,

Thanks for sharing the URL. I checked, and Right now, you are connected to Jetpack with a site-only connection. To connect your WordPress.com account, please follow these steps:

    • Go to the Jetpack menu in your WP Admin dashboard.
    • Scroll down to find the Connections area.
    • Click Connect your WordPress.com account to connect Jetpack to your WordPress.com account.

Let us know when you have done this, and we can take another look at your Jetpack connection.

    Hi @drakkheim ,

    To go back a bit:

“Channel: Error in handleResponse UNK/SW_UNREACHABLE REGISTER_FRAME undefined”

Seems to be caused by Evernote in Chrome: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/75722844/how-to-handle-reactjs-error-that-happens-on-page-load

TypeError: Failed to construct ‘URL’: Invalid URL at Ve.getSiteCard (jetpack-connect.d30042bafc704c5747c5.min.js:1:64294)

Although this error mentions ‘jetpack-connect’, I starting to suspect you may have conflict with one of your plugins or theme.

First, if any of your plugins add caching, empty the caches and try again. Make sure to empty your browser cache, as well.

If that doesn’t help, try testing for conflicts.

    How to test for conflicts

The best way to determine if the issue is being caused by a theme and/or plugin is to:

    1. Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront or Twenty Twenty-Three theme.
    2. Try to reproduce the problem: If the problem is resolved, it’s a theme conflict. If not, continue to the next steps.
    3. Temporarily deactivate all plugins except Jetpack. You can do this manually or use a plugin to help (see below for tools).
    4. Try to reproduce the problem again. If the problem is resolved, it’s a plugin conflict. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, continue to the next step.
    5. Reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict.

    Tools to help with troubleshooting

Meks Quick Plugin Disabler will remember what plugins you had active when you switch it back on.

You can clone your site to a staging environment and perform tests without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging plugin.

Let us know what you find, and we’ll go from there.

    hi Cena,

I switched to using Edge browser which only has the lastpass extension installed which I then disabled. So totally clean browser and tried on 2 different PCs.

I was already running storefront theme, but tried 2023 as well.

I installed Meks plugin and disabled all plugins and re-enabled jetpack

    and it still failed.

Could it be because of old wordpress versions leftovers? This site has been around forever and updated a bunch of times.. know of any plugins that can purge non essential files or tips for doing essentially a site refresh?

    (@drakkheim)

I ran wordfence’s complete scan and checked if there were any files that it said could be deleted, (there weren’t)

    (@drakkheim)

Ran Advanced DB cleaner as well and cleaned up a bunch of transients but just 29 entries so not a lot of trash in the system

    alas nope

@drakkheim At this point, I’d like to run some more tests with you on your site to try to figure out what’s happening.

Could you contact us via this contact form and mention this thread?
