I am writing to report a bug in the Site Kit plugin for WordPress. When I try to connect my Google account to the plugin, after accepting all permissions, I get logged out of WordPress.

I have tried the following steps to resolve this issue.

    • I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Site Kit plugin.
    • I have cleared my browser cache and cookies.
    • I have tried connecting to the plugin using a different google account.
    • I have tried connecting to the plugin by enabling troubleshoot mode.

After trying these steps, the problem persists.

I would appreciate your help in solving this problem. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Thanks for getting in touch @ch12ben. Based on you becoming logged out during setup, what may be happening is Site Kit has some invalid site records from a previous setup. So we can determine more on this, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. Do you recall having successfully setup Site Kit previously? If so let me know of any URL changes you may have made since that time. This may include from a site migration, a change to your wp-admin path or moving your WordPress files into a different directory.
    3. When you are logged out of your site, what is the site URL in your browsers address bar? I ask as this may contain a callback URL referencing a previous wp-admin path.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

I do not recall having successfully set up Site Kit previously. I have tried to set it up several times, but I keep getting logged out of WordPress after accepting all permissions.

Thanks for the update @ch12ben. In that case, please follow the steps below and let me know if you are able to proceed:

    1. Visit your site settings (Settings > General).
    2. Change your site address (URL) and WordPress address (URL) from https://yoursite.com to https://www.yoursite.com (replacing the yoursite.com reference with your own site URL.
    3. Press the save button.
    4. Attempt Site Kit setup once more after logging back into your site.

Let me know how you get on with the above.

    Great. It has worked.
    Thanks for helping.

What if I don’t want this type of url (https://www.sitename.com)? Because SiteKit is only working with this type of url.

Glad to hear that this worked for you! And great question with regards reverting to your site URL without the www. To do this, you can now reverse what you did before. Visit your site settings and remove both the www prefixed. You’ll need to login to your site once more. Site Kit should recognize a URL change, requesting you to go through the set up process once more.

Let me know how you get on with the above.
