• Hello!

My 1st time installing WP and eveything went fine and dnady. I have also installed a few plugins and these all seem to be working OK.

When I try to attach images to my post’s it says:

“test.jpg” has failed to upload due to an error
Unable to create directory /home/captain/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Do I need to make a folder or set some permissions?

Any help would be most handy!

  • Try changing the permissions on /wp-content to 777 temporarily to let WP create the uploads directory. Repeat the upload procedure and see if it completes. When you are done, set your /wp-content permissions back to 0755. See if that makes any difference.

Just checked this again and /wp-content folder is working on 755 but within the folder is the “uploads” folder which is set to 777. Is this one OK as I can’t seem to change it?

Here is some information on wordpress permissions. If you have shell access, you can change the uploads directory ownership to to your “username:server” rather than “server:server”, then you can probably set the permissions back to 775. Otherwise ask your host to change permissions on the directory. There may be an ownership/group issue of some sort on the server. I guess that could depend on the host.
