Unable to create directory. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

  • A newbie question but when uploading either a theme or image/media I get the error message;

    ‘Unable to create directory. Is its parent directory writable by the server?’

    I can upload stuff by ftp, but that doesn’t solve this. Any help appreciated.

    so I have looked further into this and the number of queries on this topic is huge… I have tried some of the suggestions and still nothing.

    with the number of problems people have had with this in the past surely there is a solution/fix?????

    You might want to change the permissions of the folder where you upload your theme -> wp-content/themes/

    Change the permissions of that folder to 755, that should do the trick.
