    Hi AIOSEO support team,

I’m encountering an issue where the AIOSEO plugin is unable to create the robots.txt file. The plugin displays the following message:

“It looks like you are missing the proper rewrite rules for the robots.txt file. It appears that your server is running on nginx, so the fix will most likely require adding the correct rewrite rules to our nginx configuration. Check our documentation for more information.”

    I’ve reviewed the documentation here:
    https://aioseo.com/docs/nginx-rewrite-rules-for-robots-txt/

My WordPress site is hosted on an Azure App Service, where we don’t have the ability to modify the NGINX configuration as recommended. Is there an alternative workaround that would allow AIOSEO to manage or generate the robots.txt without needing to change NGINX rewrite rules on Azure App Service?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi @adlpp,

Thank you for reaching out about the issue you’re experiencing with the robots.txt file on your site.

Kindly note that AIOSEO does not generate the robots.txt file. This functionality is actually handled by WordPress itself, but WordPress may not always be able to automatically generate the file under some circumstances. The reason why you’re seeing this message in AIOSEO is because our plugin informs users about noteworthy items in their sites that could affect their SEO.

I recommend reaching out to your hosting provider, as they should be able to assist with any necessary configurations to ensure the proper generation of your WordPress robots.txt file.

If modifying the robots.txt file directly is something you’re comfortable with, you can also try adding a physical robots.txt file to the root directory of your website. In most cases, this will work just fine, especially since robots.txt typically doesn’t need frequent updates once it’s configured.

Let me know if you have any other questions, or if there’s anything else I can assist you with.

    Hi Ali

Thank you for the detailed explanation regarding the robots.txt file issue. I appreciate the clarification about AIOSEO and WordPress’s handling of this functionality.

I’ll proceed to contact our hosting provider for assistance with the configurations necessary to ensure the proper generation of the robots.txt file. Additionally, I’ll consider creating a physical robots.txt file in the root directory if required.
