I am running into a strange situation where I acquired a WP Genesis site that has Tribulent Slideshow Gallery actively installed, but it was not being used on the site for anything at the moment.

That said, I tried to first deactivate and then to delete the plugin and with either deactivation or deletion there are error messages that suddenly appear on both the front and back end of the website that I was not able to get rid of.

I then decided to download a new copy of the plugin and install it to see if I could get the error messages to go away. Upon activation, the error messages went away totally.

Then I tested to try and delete the new plugin install and again the error messages appear.

The error messages seem to have to do the functions.php file of the Genesis child theme.

Since this plugin is not used on the site at present I really would like to get it deleted as part of the maintenance of the site.

Have you seen issues like this and what can you suggest for me to get rid of the plugin off the site, without error messages showing up?

    Thanks in advance.

I managed to figure out the issue on this and resolve it.

It seems when the original Genesis child theme maker constructed his Genesis child theme, for some unknown reason he made a reference in the functions.php file that it was required for there to be a ‘newsletter.php’ — (this was the reference showing up in the error messages, when I tried to delete the gallery plugin.)

So I went into the functions.php file and removed the line referencing the ‘newsletter.php’ and reloaded the functions.php file.

Once I did that I was able to successfully delete the gallery plugin without there being error messages.

So my issue was not caused by the gallery plugin — but by a sloppy Genesis child theme developer it seems.

    Sorry for bothering you.
