• We have many different WordPress sites, and have found that Instant Images works in all of our installations except those where the WordPress installation folder is different than the site root.

This WordPress documentation page explains how to set your installation folder different than your site URL:

    Giving WordPress Its Own Directory

I looked for other threads on the topic, and came across this thread where the plugin author mention that it was reported by a number of users but they’d been unable to find the cause ( https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/unable-to-download-image-to-server-please-check-your-server-permissions/ ). I’d reply in that thread, but it says that it’s been closed. I’m wondering if maybe the missing link could be that the WordPress installation could be in it’s own directory other than the site address?

Has anyone gotten Instant Images working in a site where your “WordPress Address (URL)” is different from your “Site Address (URL)” (in General Settings)?

    Thanks,
    Jacob

Hi @accelerhosting I just tested in a sub directory and it’s working as expected. does the image download to uploads/instant-images?

Hi @dcooney Thanks for the response. No, the uploads/instant-images folder is completely empty, though we’ve tried to upload many through the Instant Images WordPress plugin, and each time we get the “Unable to download image to server, please check your server permissions…” message.

For the test that you did in a sub directory, you’re accessing the site from the root still, though it is installed in a subdirectory?

So, just to verify, you have WordPress installed in example.com/wordpress-folder/ but the WordPress site is accessible from the site root example.com/ ? is this correct? This is how we have our sites set up where the plugin is not working. It requires modifications to the .htaccess file as mentioned in the docs.

    Thanks!

Yes, I followed the guide using htaccess

Can you check your php.ini to make sure allow_url_fopen is set to on for your server?

I wish I had an answer for you. on my Macbook, i’m unable to use the plugin on localhost do to some permission issue as well yet all directories are 777. I’m hoping to refactor the upload process shortly.
