Now that I’ve updated my site to WordPress 5.4, I am unable to select a given block and manually drag it to another block. For example, I want to duplicate a heading in my first column, and drag and drop that into my next column. It is only allowing me to move the block around using the “Move Up/Down” arrow tools within the column. Another example is I want to drag an existing block into a Group block. What is going on?

  • Seems like drag-and-drop is still not an option. I’m not sure the purpose of the bock editor, it’s slow, you can’t drag and drop, controls are hidden/go away. It’d be nice if WordPress would look at some easier to use UI.

Seem issue on my side after updating. V9.1 in WP5.6 still works, but 9.5.2 does not. Holding down the up/down arrows does not work either.

Same problem here—drag and drop quit working when I updated to WP 5.6.
The support person at my web host does NOT have the same problem, so it seems to be a compatibility issue on my end. But I haven’t been able to find it.
I see that some posts above are marked “resolved.” Anyone have a solution to the “updated, and lost drag and drop function” problem?

I unstilled and reinstalled the Gutenberg plugin. It did the trick for me.

At the web host’s suggestion, I cleared the browser history and cache, and rebooted the browser. And it WORKED! I’m dragging and dropping normally now.

That is a good one!!! Clearing the browser data (Chrome). It also worked for me also on another issue. I use the ‘Block Navigation’ a handy plugin for Gutenberg, but it no longer showed in the sidebar. Clearing the cached images and cookies from Chrome brought it back.

Perhaps more Gutenberg issues can be solved by this?
