• I’m not super experienced with WordPress… I know enough to edit our existing website and to get by.

All of a sudden I am unable to edit certain pages- only some (and of course, only the ones I WANT to edit.

When I click the “edit” link underneath the page, the usual editing screen appears and everything looks normal. However where the content should be, there is just a spinning circle (as if the computer is thinking).

I’ve tried using a different computer, disabling all plug ins, restoring backup… nothing has changed.

Any help in layman’s terms would be much appreciated!

    Thank you!

  • Hi shopandis,

Given what you have said, I am sure you’ve racked your brain for “What was done to my site just before the issue occurred?” That said, is there anything — plugin added, theme switched, configuration changed, etcetera — that was done prior to your issue?

Beyond this, and I know you have done most of it, the goal should be to take your site back to as default a WordPress site as humanly possible AND see if your issue continues. This means once again deactivating all plugins, switching back to the default theme (e.g., Twenty Fourteen or possibly Twenty Fifteen if you’ve just installed version 4.1).

Note that a spinning wheel generally indicates something hasn’t yet completed on your page. So, while the spinning wheel spins, if possible, look around the page for any clues. Especially look at images — to see if some or all are failing to load.

And speaking of images, given only some of your pages are exhibiting the bad behavior, is it possible the problem pages have inserted images that are coming from somewhere beyond your Media Library? That is, take a hard look at the pages that do NOT have the issue and compare them to the ones that do have the issue. Any clues will do. But I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that the issue has something to do with something (such as an image) not loading (and possibly not timing out) on your pages.

Lastly, I kinda addressed it in my last sentence. Does the spinning wheel last forever? That is, what if you log in to your site, go to a problem page, see the spinning wheel, and wait? Does it spin for minutes, hours, or days? Okay, okay, I know you don’t want to wait for days to see if the wheel stops spinning but do give it some time. ??

    Hope this helps,

    Randy
