Unable to edit posts, or post new entries

Could a firewall cause a problem like this?

I’m having this same problem. I can’t edit my posts, I can’t post anything new. When I go to those pages it just shows a blank screen and loads forever. This is pretty random. It was working fine just yesterday and I’ve not changed anything. I’m running the latest version of wordpress and it’s been working fine up until yesterday.

Drew- would you happen to be hosting with Yahoo? All of a sudden I can’t even access my site! Oh this is so darn frustrating. I had a total crash just a month ago, and if this turns out to be a Yahoo problem I’m gonna just go mental.

Nope, I’m not hosting on yahoo. This has to be some sort of problem with the database. When I click to edit a post or write a new post, my browser just hangs and the status bar says “transferring data”. It never times out. Checked in IE7, Firefox 2, and Opera 9.

Somehow, you have to find the server error logs and see what it’s saying, if anything.

So here is what’s going on now. Sometimes my site is down, sometimes it’s back up. When I can access my site I am able to post and edit. The post and edit problem only seems to happen while I’m at work, not at home.

I’m really thinking that this is a server issue not a wordpress one. I have repaired/optimized my database, and totally deleted any plugins that I have added in the past few days.

You all are much smarter than I…do you agree with my server vs wordpress assumption? I am going to contact Yahoo tomorrow and ask about error log access, but what do you all think?

I’d guess you have a double whammy, A flakey hosting service and a firewall at your workplace that disables certain operations (HTTP POSTS) for certain sites or all sites.

I’m not so sure about your server vs WordPress assumption. I’ve hit the same problem with my ‘About’ Page but I can access all other parts of my blog, including new posts that I’ve put up this morning.

Do any WP staff reply here..?

I’m having the same problem with my wordpress. I did notice something when this happens.

The error occurs when a draft of my entry has been temporarily saved (by the auto save function) in my server.

I don’t know what it does or what happens really, but when I try to publish and a tempy draft has been made, a prompt happens asking me if I want to edit post. Naturally I say Yes. and then an error (much like the ones posted here) happens.

My rule of thumb now is to copy paste pre-existing codes before WordPress even saves. It’s a little meticulous. ;A; I hope this gets fixed. ;A;

Not that I know of but, last I heard they’ve never had a phone number, a building or receptionist or a reliable pay check.

Turn off the auto-save if it’s causing problems. The about page problem isn’t related to this thread, so you should probable search for that problem.

At work now, things seem to be working fine. I wish I could just pinpoint the exact issue so I could fix it.

Ok, I’m 95% sure that this is some sort of server issue. It turns out that my site was down for quite some time last week. I was on vacation and didn’t know it, but someone just emailed me asking what was going on. The firewall at work thing could be part of the problem to a certain point, but having the site down to everyone seems like Yahoo to me.

Thinking of switching to A Small Orange based on positive comments I have read here and elsewhere. Any advice?

have you banned yourself from editing somehow? did it start after you have changed anything in the admin panel? just an idea…
