• Hi everyone!

    I’m running a blog over at https://freefitguy.com using the latest version of wordpress and hosting through BlueHost. In order to edit pages/posts/etc., I use the wordpress dashboard and the latest version of google chrome (9.0.597.98).

    2 day ago, I ran into a bug when trying to edit previously published pages/posts or editing drafts that I had previously saved. When bringing up the editor, all I see is a blank page and none of the normal text options appear (only the insert image, video, etc.) None of the buttons seem responsive, but when I highlight the normal editing area with my mouse, I can see all of my text in html format. The font appears to be white which is why I can’t see it. I am unable to make any changes, but if I hit “Preview Post” it will come up with my last saved version and everything looks fine.

    Is there any reason why I can’t make changes? It stinks to have to rewrite posts every single time and not be able to save a draft on wordpress to work with later. Any advice would be wonderful.

    Thanks!

    -Matt

  • Have you installed any new plug-ins lately? Have you made any other changes in your installation lately?

    Have you tried deactivating all plug-ins to see if the problem is still there? If the problem is gone after doing that, reactivate plug-ins one by one and retest to find the culprit.

    If that doesn’t work, try reinstalling WordPress manually and see if that fixes it. Important: if you’ve edited the default Twenty Ten theme instead of creating a child theme be sure not to upload a new twentyten folder or you may lose your changes.

    Thanks for your input. I tried turning off all of the plug-ins, but there were no changes. I also used wordpresses automatic re-install feature, but also didn’t get any resolution to my issue. Is there anything that re-installing manually will do that the automated re-install won’t? I’m new at this, so just trying to feel my way through everything.

    Thanks for your help!

    UPDATE: Problem seems to be resolved. I found an old post on the wordpress forums at:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/unable-to-edit-posts-amp-pages?replies=3

    He describes a similar issue to what I had, and so even though I was a bit hesitant, I edited my wp-config.php file and added the final command:

    define(‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’,false);

    I don’t understand code so I have no idea why this works or if it will cause issues later, but yay!

    It’s probably a network cache issue or not all files were properly copied. try – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress. and delete the define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS',false); after a few days to see if it has been fixed.
