Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

I’ve tried downloading a fresh copy of wordpress, and uploaded to the ftp host. The problem seems to persist, am still getting the same error as above.

This error started after sucuri helped to update my wordpress to 4.0.1.

If I remove the “www.” from the site address URL under settings, I’m able to access the website. But with “www.”, it’ll prompt the above fatal errors. Any idea why?

    Thank you in advance ??

Are there any .htaccess files in public_html and wp-includes? If so, is there a difference if you rename them to just htaccess (remove the dot)?

Ok, please change .htaccess back to 644 or 640. 777 is way too insecure for .htaccess, it should never be 777.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Hi,

Currently your website is working without www. Could you please change the URL to with www? So that the error can be displayed.
