unable to get the password – wordpress

1. Do you have mail() disabled?
2. Do you have the latest version of PHP installed on the server?
3. Reinstall WordPress (keeping the wp-content folder).

how do i know if the mail() is disabled?

my php version is PHP 5.x (that’s what it says.. i guess the latest- i am on godaddy server)

will the reinstall delete anything?

If you just copy up the files again, you won’t overwrite any of your content. But. Ask GoDaddy is mail() is turned off on your server.

i uploded all the files and it didn’t work..

is there no way for me to check if the function mail() is disabled or not? a file that check or something else?

Ask. Your. Host.

they told me it is supposed to be active.. so it should work..

Tell them this:

“When I try to use WordPress’ function to email me my password, it tells me mail() may be disabled. Is there any reason why this would happen? I know you said mail() is enabled. Are there special permissions I need to set to use it with PHP based apps (or WordPress specifically)?”

they told me this:

i don’t understand why i keep having to return here and then ask them for 3 times now..

the error says that there is a problem with the mail() – that it might be disabled but godaddy says it works..

what can i do?

Thread is tagged for godaddy, and they might see this and be able to help. Other than that this really does sound like a hosting issue – so we can’t do much other than suggest you contact their support.

however as you can replicate the issue, give them those steps so that they can see the issue for themselves, and also refer them to this thread.

Turn off all your plugins and try again, but really, this is most likely a hosting issue.

Are you on Windows or Linux hosting?

my hosting is linux , i did what you said but it didn’t help

but i got to the wp_login.php file and i tested something,

when i deleted this:

if ( $message && !wp_mail($user_email, $title, $message) )
wp_die( __(‘The e-mail could not be sent.’) . “
\n” . __(‘Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function…’) );

it said that the email is sent- it doesn’t help much because it doesn’t sent me an email but that function may be the problem..

Deleting the error message isn’t going to help fix the problem, you know ?? And if that was a common problem, it’d be easier to fix.

But. Looks like a few people have had this issue with GoDaddy (though I know a few who don’t).

um.. i tried this: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/ but it didn’t work, also all you have sent me didn’t help cause it ain’t my specific problem..

is there a way to overide somehow the mail() function and use something else?

i don’t know what to do.. godaddy told me they can’t help me because it’s a problem with wordpress..

I know how frustrating it is to hear this, but it’s not WordPress. It’s either how WP is installed on your server OR it’s your server.

I linked to show you, and everyone else, that this seems to be an issue with SOME GoDaddy setups.

i am not on a windows hosting.. and i have php 5.2.14.. so i don’t think this is the problem..

i don’t know what to do next.. it drives me crazy cause there is not solution..

what can i do.. i don’t understand..
