Unable to import new images to gallery by scan

Using 2.0.23 version of nextgen-gallery. Initial import of folder works fine (slow but all images get imported). But when I try to scan the folder for new images in the gallery I get the message
0 picture(s) successfully addedBut a lot of new images are available in the folder.
This does not happen with 1.9.13
