    Hi,

I know this must sound ridiculous, but I’m unable to install this plugin.

I’m able upload it to my plugins page, but when I click install, it times out and says the file already exists and the installation failed.

If I downloaded and installed this plugin before, I don’t remember it. I only know the zip files I try to install have the current day and time on them so they’re new.

I did I have had this problem with one other plugin. It only finally got installed because a support person did it for me.

I have successfully and easily installed quite a few other plugins, though, so it’s not like I don’t know how to.

To try to get a fresh start, I delete my local zip files and close/remove the files in WinZip then download and unzip the plugin again. I then upload it to plugins page and try to install but I keep getting the same result.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you,
    GK

    Hi GK,

The “The file already exists” error usually means that the plugin has already been installed on the site. Do you not see it as installed if you go to your Plugins page?

It maybe that you’ve previously installed Exchange and it wasn’t fully deleted somehow. If that’s the case, you can go into your FTP and go to /wp-content/plugins/ and see if you find an ithemes-exchange directory there. If it does, you can delete it from there.

When you upload Exchange through the WordPress dashboard, you’re uploading it unzipped? Try downloading a new zip of Exchange and uploading it still zipped.

Give that a try and let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Elise

    Hello Elise,

You were right. It was already installed. It just didn’t show up on my plugin page. I deleted the directory and have now done a successful installation of iThemes.

Thank you for your help! I will mark this as resolved.

    Gail
