Unable to install new WP 4.4.1 Update

    Current site running WP Version 4.1.9
    When I run the Update, it freezes in the downloading files step.
    I have tried deactivating all plugins to no effect – same problem.

    So far I have made 5 attempts at this trying various things but once the Maintenance mode is evoked during the Update, the only way I can get back into the Dashboard is to recover from an earlier backup.

    Sure could use some advise on this one as I have not encountered a problem like this with any of my other sites so far.
