Unable to install plugins successfully w/ Plex Platform
-
For those who may not no about the plugin I am about to be referring to, All-In-One WP Migration is a plugin that allows you to export your WordPress theme in its entirety by way of a downloaded file, which can then be uploaded using the same plugin installed on a new location to completely move the WordPress site over.
I have created a full WordPress site using X Theme locally. Then using the All-In-One WP Migration Plugin, I successfully moved the site over to my online host for the client to see. Once the client approved it, I began to move it over to the client’s host, GoDaddy, and is using the Plex Platform. This is where the problem began…
I personally had never heard of Plex before using GoDaddy, I’d only ever heard of cPanel. It all looked pretty simple though, using the Plex WordPress application to install WordPress, no problem. The problem began using plugins. Because I’m using a plugin to move an entire WordPress site over, I need to be able to install the All-In-One WP Migration plugin on the client’s host first. One of two things will happen:
1. The plugin appears to have installed successfully, but then when trying to import the exported All-In-One migrated file, it hangs during the process, either towards the very end and says Unable To Import, or is just stuck. If it just stays stuck, WordPress is bricked and I have to delete the installation of WordPress and reinstall it all over again.
But what usually happens is…
2. The plugin takes longer to install than usual, and eventually shows an Internal Server 500 Error at the top of the Plugins page, and the Installing button of the plugin turns into a Update Failed! button, even though I was attempting to install it, not update it. This doesn’t brick the WordPress installation, and then going to the Plugins page, I will either find the plugin installed but not Activated, Install AND Activated, or not installed at all. I’ve tried going ahead and Activating it, but then the same thing happens that I mentioned earlier. So it seems either way, it’s a bad plugin install.
At first I thought it was a problem with the plugin (even though I had no issues using it many times before this), so I contacted the developer and provided them with the exported file I tried using many times unsuccessfully, and they were able to use it without any problems.
Speaking with GoDaddy, they suggested I try installing other plugins, so I did. I tried installed Updraft Backup, and bbpress. Both at times gave me the Internal Server 500 Error. So at this point, it’s not a unique problem with the plugin I’m trying to use, it’s a problem with ANY plugin I try to use. I thought about recreating the site from scratch on the clients end, but the plugin issue is still there, and X Theme will require plugins, so I’ll eventually still run into issues. Previously the client only had a static website installed, so I don’t think the client ever had the opportunity to run into this issue.
GoDaddy found no issues on their end, so I have tried many different things to resolve this issue:
1. I’ve tried again, because I had no issues before using the same plugin, same version of it, same version of WordPress, same results.
2. I generally using Safari, but I also tried in Google Chrome, same results.
3. In case my Anti-Virus had something to do with it, I tried it on a MacBook Pro with no security on it, same results.
4. GoDaddy suggested it could be my network blocking some IP Addresses coming from them, so I tried on a different network, same results.
5. GoDaddy suggested restarting the Plex Platform on the client’s account, so I did, same results. The only other option to consider is to switch the hosting platform from Plex to cPanel, but the client does not want to make that change. I’ve also been suggested that it will not make a difference anyway.
With that said, does anyone here have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue? My only other option is to tell the client I cannot continue unless he changes host because no one seems to be able to figure out why this isn’t happening, and GoDaddy can only help with any server issues, not issues with WordPress.
