• Hello there! I was on WP 2.0 and recently I have been unable to leave comments under my Admin ID. I could leave posts but not respond to my readers. I get the following message:

Sorry, you can only post a new comment once every 15 seconds. Slow down cowboy.

I’ve tried to leave comments on two different computers on two different IPs with the same message. I decided to try updrading to WP 2.0.1 to see if this would fix it. Nope…

I noticed as well that some of my posts prior to this error were timestamped March 28th?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • you get that message when you try posting too quickly after a previous post

Yeah I know that’s there for flooding, but it was the first post I had made that day. Same thing next day. Then tried it on another computer logged in with my admin account.

Now my new comments aren’t showing up on my Dashboard, but they’re showing up in my Manage Comments. I have to wonder if it has to do with the March 28th date stamp.

    i have no idea

Thanks anyway. I will hunker down until after March 28 and hopefully this will clear up.

    Is the server date correct?

I forget if there’s a cookie involved here ,but maybe clear ’em and try again?

** UPDATE: I fixed the problem by checking all the comment dates in mySQL, and found the problem was a comment year of “2010”.

I am also having this problem on one of my WordPress installs. Version 2.0.2. No spam plugins installed (only 2 were activated, and I even disabled them). Cleared cookies & cache. Server date & time are correct, local PC date/time is correct (same timezone as server, same exact time). I even rebooted the server. Monitoring the apache logs gives no error. I’m not sure when this started because this is my dev sever. My production server (running on the same physical server) does not have this problem.

** I just had someone else in another location test the site, and they could post a comment. I’ve tried using both IE & FireFox. Same error. Tried logging in as admin, and posting, as well as posting as a guest. Same error. I can post comments to my production site, though. This is very baffling.

I’m having the same problem now with WP 2.1.1. And it only started to happened after I’ve upgraded from WP 2.1. Anyone else seeing this problem?

EDIT Checked Server and Blog time/date settings. Was correct.

    Removed cookies. Didn’t work.

    Problem persists.

I had to follow this thread which suggested commenting out the flood trigger check in wp-includes/comment.php.

I’ve checked all recent posts and comments and their timestamp are correct. There were no “future” posts/comments which will cause the trigger check to fail.

Another thing to note: if at any point in time, the server clock was incorrect then the entries for the fields “comment_date_gmt”, “post_date_gmt” in the tables “wp_comments” and “wp_posts” respectively, may be out of whack for those entries/comments entered during that time.

I’ve corrected those and all’s well again – I reverse the change I did for disabling the flood-trigger, even though I was protected all the time by SK2.
