Thank you. I don’t know what you mean by “check your site error logs”. Please explain. Which site? Where should I check?

Ditto. We’re not psychic. You have to give us something to go on…

Esmi – I’m sorry to chime in here, but that’s a rude answer. This person – like me – probably doesn’t know how blogs work from a tech perspective. Maybe he/she, like me, is a writer or an editor. Not a code person. So your answer and flip remarks about “we’re not psychic” is just rude. It’s simple — I can’t upload images either. How does that happen with a major blog platform? It’s insane that it happens at all. I’ve worked for many newspapers in their digital units, and that NEVER happened. So why does it happen here so often? So even though it’s not a “WordPress” issue, it really is…because you guys are the ones we’re using.

Sorry to chime in and disagree with you but that’s not even mildly rude. Just factual.

Before you jump in I strongly recommend that you give the forum welcome a good read.

We’re a good crowd but really we are not mind readers and we can only work with what’s provided us. Without data via those logs the problem isn’t going to get solved here.

Your server and WordPress DO work together, folks, they’re not completely separate entities.

    Okay guys, everybody relax.

@maggiejphotography, @therolesheet, You need to understand that we’re not wizards here. We can’t perform miracles or do magic and just “fix” everything. A website (and yes, your blog, and WordPress, and the place where you upload images, is all part of your website) runs on a computer somewhere. The web hosting service is who you pay to run your website.

Now, if you can’t upload an image and get the “an error occurred” message, then that’s just WordPress saying that it encountered an error. It has no idea what kind of error, because the web server didn’t tell it what the error was. The actual process of “uploading” the file from your computer to the website doesn’t actually happen through WordPress. Instead, your computer sends the file to the web server, which then starts WordPress and tells it that it has received a file upload. WordPress then takes that file upload and handles it appropriately.

So, to find out what the error actually is, you have to check your server’s error logs. We can’t actually help you do this, because those are not part of WordPress. We have absolutely no idea where the error logs on your website are, how they’re organized, or even if you have access to them.

So far, what has been said is that an error occurred during the upload, but that’s what the webserver is telling WordPress. It’s not an actual error message or useful information. Running a website yourself is more than just writing or editing. If you only want to do those things and not actually manage the website on a technical level at all, then you need to pay somebody else to do it. There are various managed hosting services you could look into if you’re not willing to learn how websites work, or where error logs are, and things like that.

This is a technical support forum, and we’re happy to provide you with technical support, but at a certain level, you are going to have to pick up a book, or a manual, or some form of documentation, or perhaps talk to your web hosting provider about it. Because your website is a piece of software with many different components, and WordPress is only one of them. It may be the interface you see most often, but it will not be the source of all the problems. WordPress cannot run by itself, it stands on a stack of other software and services, and those can have problems too.

You are 100% right, and I apologize. I’ve just been frustrated, and I took it out on everyone here. I was wrong to do that, so please forgive…I’ve calmed down now and am completely aware that I need to do some of this work myself. Thank you for the measured and helpful response.

Thank you, Samuel. I appreciate the explanation.

Let me understand what you are saying. Since I do not have a website through WordPress but only a blog, do I need to contact the internet provider that supplies the connection to my computer? Or, do I need to speak with BlueHost that is hosting my domain for my blog?

This error started occurring only when I upgraded my WordPress blog template to version 3.5.1.

I am more than happy to do the leg work, but I simply don’t understand where I need to go to find the information you need. I called BlueHost, and they told me that what I am experiencing is a 3rd party issue and not on their end. I opened a ticket with them since I said they will try to help me.

    (@esmi)

You need to speak with BlueHost and ask them about accessing your site’s error logs.

I am having the same issue but mine says HTTP error. Am in process of contacting my hosts but wondered if I haven’t done something really obvious! Thanks for your help in advance.

Tons of people are havin this same issue.
I posted about this issue but yesterday nobody answered, and maybe for the more techy guys in here it will make more sense….Wordpress 3.5 image uploading takes WAY TOO MANY PROCESSES, and is probably maxed out your hosts processes limits.. I have a VPS hosting account that has a max “number of processes” of 25.
Using a fresh 3.5 or 3.5.1 install. While uploading images I am getting a huge number of processes, and after 2 images my server has reached the max number of processes and the upload gets an “http error”. I know this because as I uploaded images I constantly monitored my server stats. So to test this I made a fresh 3.4 install. I again tried to upload a few images, and this time I uploaded 15 images(at once) with no problems (my server stats didn’t even move). So I tried this same thing a shared free server with different hosting company. The image uploads from 3.5 worked fine.

So it seems that the issue is the image uploading of 3.5 with my server?

My hosing company is not being of any help to me so I am reaching out to see if anyone has experienced these kinds of issues also?

    Thanks in advance,
    Vapor
