• I have a big problem… I cannot save/publish this story, I had been creating for an hour.
I still have the editor screen with all stuff, but on saving, there is an error – failed to save.

I tried opening All stories on another tab… But that gives a red balloon error:
    Unable to Load Stories
The response is not a valid JSON response.

    Hey Joey

Wanna continue our discussion from https://github.com/google/web-stories-wp/issues/4651 here?

I shared some debugging tips at https://github.com/google/web-stories-wp/issues/4651#issuecomment-697854259

I know… I was forced to create this issue in www.ads-software.com, because the gdocs form you gave required me to add a www.ads-software.com url first. Perhaps I should have just added the homepage url ??

lets continue the discussion on github only… I will close this issue myself… in the end.

Hi @csine! Thanks for the info! Since we provide support here now, I’m going to continue to troubleshoot with you to find the source.

Let’s check if the following are affecting the REST API request:

    1) Temporarily place Cloudflare (it looks like you’re using it in your video) in development mode.

    2) Temporarily disable the firewall of your security plugin and/or ensure the REST API is not being blocked in the settings.

Feel free to provide us an update if this allows the Dashboard to display!

I tried disabling security plugins, and Dev mode in cloudflare… but dashboard link is still showing that error. There could be other plugin settings affecting REST api…

Honestly, I do not think this is a huge problem anymore. The Stories Dashboard is of no use anyway. I can safely access my stories from All Stories link. Perhaps, you should remove the Dashboard link from this plugin.

I am having exactly the same problem – when I hit save draft I get the failed to save draft error message.

    Looking in the Chrome Console i see there’s a 403 error api-fetch.min.js:2 POST https://<my domain>/wp-json/web-stories/v1/web-story/640708?_locale=user 403

The auto saves are in the post table in the database

    @csine thanks for following up!

As mentioned in this reply, it may still be another plugin conflicting. Here’s a way to pinpoint which it could be:

Use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin and enable its troubleshooting mode. This mode disables active plugins and switches to a default theme safely because it only affects the experience of the logged-in user.

    – Please enable the Web Stories plugin and let me know if the issue is present.

    – Enabling plugins one by one in this mode may also help pinpoint if another plugin is involved.

@daviddoughty thanks for reporting! Per forum guidelines we’ll need to address your issue (which may be slightly different) in a separate support topic. If you can perform the steps above and follow up in a new support topic that would great. Many thanks!

    Thanks

Troubleshooting mode just wrecks the site and really isn’t very helpful

I have got the plugin working on another site so will be able to sort it out myself

@daviddoughty thanks for the follow up. Troubleshooting mode provides non-permanent changes for the logged-in user only and it can be disabled as soon as it is no longer needed. However, a test works just fine as well.

Feel free to share your findings. We are actively working on addressing compatibilities with other plugins since Web Stories is new in the ecosystem. Your feedback will also be helpful for others.
