• We’ve been through every place other than WordPress itself to solve this issue, hopefully this gets some better results.

For the last few days, when loading wp-admin we receive an error stating: “An internal server error occurred. Please try again later.” We have been working with our hosting provider (Dreamhost) and have tried the following:

Increasing php memory limit (currently at 512M)
Disabling all plugins (through wp-cli), then re-enabling them all one-by-one
    Switching between themes (through wp-cli)

The issue is hit or miss, sometimes the page loads but as soon as I click into something it goes back to the error message, sometimes it loads and I can work for a little bit, sometimes clearing the cache helps sometimes not.

We’re currently using the Avada theme with a child theme. Someone at Dreamhost mentioned they had seen another of their customers having the same issue who also had a child theme, so I tried reverting back to Avada with no child theme, as well as trying Twentyfifteen and Twentysixteen with little success.

I’ve reached out to Avada support to verify there are no known issues with the theme. But I’m doubtful that’s the problem, as we’re having the issue with other themes activated (unless just having Avada loaded at all is the issue??).

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Also, forgot to mention: all of our plugins and themes are up-to-date; I updated via wp-cli.

  • I am having the same problem, with the same host provider (dreampress from dreamhost) with a child theme too, but in my case I am using Kleo theme.

I am using bbpress + buddypress + some other plugins related to this, and I only found this problem in the backend, but never in the frontend.
The main problem is when I want to click in core-update link or plugins update link.

I don′t know how to solve it.

I am having this exact same problem on DreamPress, with the random/often internal server error.

Can you tell me what you discovered? Did you find the cause? Any solution? Did you switch hosts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

@josh Virkler: This is not your topic. If you require assistance then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic.

Well, for anyone else who comes across this thread, I will post my solution (since nobody else did).

I used the P3 Plugin Performance Profiler which revealed that the site was being slowed down dramatically by the Jigoshop Smart Coupons plugin by Store Apps. It was causing such slowdowns that it intermittently threw the internal server error.

I disabled that plugin and everything worked fine again!

I ended up deleting it and purchasing a newer version of the plugin directly from Jigoshop, and that is working properly.

    Hope this helps someone.
