Hi, I’ve been using the plugin for many months without problem The current problem started a few weeks ago – I’m not sure what triggered it.

When I enter the login details on my laptop I get the usual message: ‘Forbidden You don’t have permission to access/LOGIN PAGE NAME/ on this server.’

Long before this problem began I’d changed the name of my login page and my username. I managed to log in and out on both machines without problem.

Now I’ve logged out of my laptop and I can’t get back in – I’m still logged in on my desktop using the same credentials.

I think the change that I may have made prior to this problem is to the feature ‘Enable Force WP User Logout’ which I unticked. I’m reluctant to change it back now in case I can’t get into my desktop either!

    Can you see an explanation?

Have you tried clearing the cookies and cache on the laptop browser?

Have you also tried logging in with a different browser?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I’ve tried both of those things.

I wonder if the problem is due to the fact that I’ve recently moved the domain to a new registrar. I think this would have happened around the time the problem first appeared.

I also use Cloudflare but I’ve been using it since well before the problem showed up, so I doubt that could cause the problem.

I’d changed the name of my login page

In addition to the rename login page feature do you also have the whitelist feature active? (judging by the message you are getting this appears to be the case)

Actually no, I’ve never used the whitelist feature. For a time in the past I used the Blacklist feature but I’m not using it at the moment.

Do you have any firewall features enabled?
If so, can you please do the following tests:
Disable any firewall features one at time and test the login during each step.
I want to establish which (if any) of the firewall rules are causing the blockage for your laptop.

Thanks for the quick response and for pinning down the problem.

When I untick Proxy Comment Posting I’m able to log in. Does that tell you anything?

I have most of the firewall options activated. I’ve only tested the options on the first two tabs – I’m guessing I don’t need to test the remaining tabs now.

I don’t have a spam problem anyway so I may not need this feature, but what are ‘other proxy requests’?

    Ok thanks for that.
If the “proxy comment posting” rule was responsible for blocking your laptop then that would suggest that it was connecting via a proxy server.
That rule is designed to stop all types of connections which use http protocols commonly used by proxy servers.

I think you can leave that rule disabled if you want to continue using your laptop with its current connection setup.

Ok, I’ll leave that rule unticked.
    Thanks for you help.
