• Okay I’ve seen a lot of these posts, but they are all unhelpful for me b/c I have absolutely ZERO idea how to do any of the suggested repairs …

I downloaded a new plugin yesterday and this morning I cannot log in to my WP Admin to delete it. I can’t do anything. My website is up and I can view everything, but when I try to make a change … white screen of death.

people said to clear the cache. tried it. didn’t work.
i’ve logged in on chrome and safari. same problem.
some people say you need to delete two lines in the ?? somewhere? remove lines?

i don’t know how to access that, where to find it. what to delete, etc.

as of now, my site is completely useless and i was getting ready to launch it this week.
    help!

  • The simplest way for you to deactivate your plugins is by logging in to your host via FTP , navigating to your WordPress installation then wp-content/plugins/ and renaming each folder inside (I like to append a number to the end). This will disable them for the time being.

Try to log in again after doing that.

yeah, FTP. I do not know what that is, where to find it, etc.

How did you install WordPress on your host originally?

I honestly don’t know? I went onto wordpress and just downloaded a theme and designed everything on the site. I never saved anything or downloaded anything. it was all done on the physical website.

    Ah okay.
There is a very good chance you’re using WordPress.com and not WordPress.org

There is difference and you can read about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you are in fact using WordPress.com you’ll have better luck with support here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/

yeah, i accidentally deactivated my site on wordpress.com.

    uuuuugh.

wish there was an 800 number i could call …

nope, checked and got a message saying my site is actually www.ads-software.com

    which plugin did you install?

about FTP, You should get FTP details from your hosting provider.
it contains – hostname, username, password.
with this details you can log in to your server using FTP client application Eg – FileZilla

here is basics of FileZilla, about how to use it.

basically with FTP you are able to access all the files and folders on your server, from there you can rename the folders as @corygibbons mentioned.

okay this was actually very helpful.

now filezilla asks for four thngs:

    host:
    username:
    password:
    port:

is this the host, as in wordpress? if so, do i just type in wordpress.com?
is the username MY username and password that i used to log in to my WP-Admin?
what is the port and where do I find it?

No, you need to the information provided by your hosting company.

What is the URL of your WordPress site?

    No,
FTP details are not related to the back end of your WordPress, but rather to your server, where all your WordPress files are stored.

So, you need to contact your hosting provider about those details.
