Unable to log into and edit website

Log into your server and go to your plugin folder. You have a plugin called Genesis-Simple-Sidebars that is obviously causing the problem.

You can rename this file to something like genesis-simple-sidebars-hold

This will deactivate the plugin. Then try logging into your website.
Also if you haven’t updated your site in a year you’ll need to update to the current version for security reasons.

Once I log in, all I get is the error messages I posted above. I don’t see a way to take any action.

Hey there, it sounds like you’re still logging in via your WP login is this correct?

You need to go to your hosting account first and either rename that plugin or delete it. Who are you hosting your website with? If you’re not familiar with server stuff I may be able to walk you through it.

Thanks so much. I contacted Host Gator and they removed the plug in.

I can now log into WP. I’m still having difficulty taking any action to edit the page or even update WP. There is a menu on the side but when I click through it, nothing happens.

Any help there?

Hmmm

Without being able to actually see what you’re seeing it’s difficult to say what the issues may be at this point.

But since you mentioned your blog has been dormant for about a year I’m assuming no updates have been made. The problem could be any number of things including the theme your using as well some or all of your plug ins may be out of date.

What theme are you using?
What are you clicking on the side menu?

You could do a complete clean reinstall of your WP. That’s probably what I would do but not being able to actually see what you’re seeing makes it difficult to suggest this for you.

At this point you may want to start a new support thread and wait for one of the WP moderators to answer. Maybe they will have another solution for you.
