• I am unable to log into my dashboard. I receive a bland page after attempting to log in.

When I first tried I thought it was a result of a plugin (I deleted the plugin in question via FTP transfer), since my login page now had a Facebook login button that I did not remember ever seeing and I received an error message regarding not finding facebook account. Once the Simple Facebook Connect plugin was deleted my log in page resembled “what it used to” but still received the blank page.

Still, after logging in, I was met with a blank page. I then disabled plugins using the directions found in the support forum, but I am still unable to log in. I did enable the plugins again so my site would work until I can resolve.

I also changed my password to see if that was the issue.

I reset my browser after each change and I attempted all changes using safari and firefox.

The only thing I changed recently on my site was updating plugins and activating the SFC plugin mentioned above. I have not changed my theme (I noted in the forums that others had this issue after a theme change). I am really stumped and would appreciate any help you can offer.

    Here is my site, https://thelactationlady.com

    Thank you,

    Casi Leahy

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of your current version of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thank you for your quick reply. Just to be clear, I am unable to access my dashboard or log into my admin page.

    1) I have deactivated all plugins following the directions below; unfortunately, it did not work. I had to reactivate the plugins. For now my only solace is that my site is still functioning and people can contact me if they need to.
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename the folder “plugins” to “plugins.hold”
Login to your WordPress administration menus (/wp-admin)
Via FTP or your host’s file manager, rename “plugins.hold” back to “plugins”

    2) How do I switch back and forth between the default theme and the theme I use via FTP (it is important that I will be able to switch back if this solution does not work).

    3) I have uploaded all files via FTP transfer. How do I get a “fresh download” of my current version via FTP?

Word press has been very easy for me to navigate and I am probably not as savy as some of your other users, so please be patient with me and the more descriptive your instructions the better.

    Thank you

I am unable to access my dashboard or log into my admin page.

    In that case, try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

Esmi, I will try your suggestions and then follow up and post results. It may take me some time to figure out how to do these thing. I did reset the plugins folder and was still unable to access but I will work on the theme issue.

James, are you saying all users are unable to access their account dashboards and that this may be a just glitch with Word Press functionality? If so, that would be really good to know because trying to figure out how to change my change my theme or figuring out how to access phpMyAdmin will be a challenge for me.

    Thank you,

James, are you saying all users are unable to access their account dashboards

No – that is not the case. Some hosting companies are currently experiencing problems but the keyword there is “some”. These issues appear to be host specific and are not related to WordPress itself.

    Esmi,

    Thank you.

I came across this inquiry, https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/cannot-access-wordpress-dashboard?replies=1 where the user was unable to log into dashboard but could access dashboard through iPhone. I just testing this and I can access dashboard through my WP app on my phone. What does that mean?

    Casi

It could mean that your hosts are blocking access to a specific set of IP addresses or some other rule. The best advice I can give you is to contact your hosts and speak to them about it. The more people who contact these hosts to raise access problems, the greater the chance that we’ll get these issues resolved

Thank you, Esmi. I will do that. P.S. the app works on iPad too for those who need to access dashboard until this is resolved.

I will follow up if I get any response from my host, which is Go Daddy in case you are compiling a list.

    Esmi,

I spoke with a rep at Go Daddy and their response was, “We are aware of the issue, it is affecting lots of people, the sign on WP problem, and they are working on getting it resolved. We can’t give you a time frame, unfortunately.”

Hope the information will be helpful to others because I wasted a lot of work time trying to fix it myself. In the meantime people can use their iPhone/iPad apps.

    Have a good day,

    Thank you for the update.
