• Hi,

I have TWO sites now on the same server and I am concerned something may have been hacked. I can access the WordPress login screen. However, when I enter the username and password, the screen refreshes and I am taken back to the login screen. No error message is generated, although if I enter the wrong password an error message is shown.

I have disabled all plugins and changed to default 2019 theme but I still have the issue. I need some help/guidance to debug what is going on. I have changed the password via phpMyAdmin by deleting password, setting function to MD5 and entering a new password. The password looks then to be encrypted but it is interesting that when I try and login, the MD5 hash appears to change in the user_pass field in the table.

I have also cleared the browser data/cookies (chrome) no difference. I have compared the wp-login.php script with a working site and the files are the same. I have also uploaded a new wp-login.php file out of a WordPress download and this makes no difference. I have checked the wp-config.php and the correct database connection details are shown.

I’m out of ideas but don’t know what to do further to work out why the login is not working.

    Help!

The first time you use an MD5 password, WordPress replaces it with the password hashed by current password hash method, so that means that WP accepted your login.

    Anything in the .htaccess files?
