    After the 2.8 upgrade I am unable to move any widgets. I can’t move the ones that are already in the sidebar, nor can I move available widgets to the sidebar. Selecting one to drag over simply acts like you are holding the shift or ctrl key down. It highlights everything like a ‘select all’ but nothing moves. Tried different browsers, different PC’s…same result. Any ideas?

    It is a known problem. I have it to and tried to downgrade and now my Dashboard does not work at all.

    1. A number of plugins have been reported to present problems so deactivate all plugins and reactivate one-by-one to find culprit

    2. In Appearance->Widgets under Screen options, try the Enable Accessibility Mode

    3. Delete or refresh the browser cache

    I am trying to get my hosting company to revert back to a previous database copy and my website folder. They tried twice to restore backup copies of the website. The site works but the Dashboard is a complete rightoff. I am told I should try restoring a previous database copy (hopefully they can find one prior to upgrading 2.8) as the website folder backup I believe was prior to 2.8.

    I am hoping that works. I have also tried to deactive plugins and that has not fixed the Dashboard and I don’t think I can even get to the Widget screen as everything is a mess. I have also cleared the cache with no success.

    As database changes apparently were made could my problem be that the database was not backed out only the website folder files?

    Thanks Michael!!! THe Enable Accessibility worked! No cache clearing required. BTW, I also have the visual editor issue and I saw where someone suggested to clear the WordPress cache in the settings…I don’t see that option.

    Michael…sorry I wasn’t clear. I saw a few posts from people saying they were clearing their cache in wordpress itself…

    Whew, I dumped the turned off WP-Super Cache, dumped the cache in wordpress and in the browser, logged back in and it worked. Now going to turn Super-Cache back on and see if it works. Crisis Averted.

    I am fine with clearing cash in any browser, just didn’t know if wordpress had its own internal cache somewhere.

    I can’t even get my Screen Options to drop down.

    That’s a cache specific to a plugin, glutenfreepost.

    I restored everything and found that the Gixax Chat plugin was causing issues. Now widget seem to work.

    My culprit ended up being the wp-shopping cart plugin. Deactivated and all is working good. Activate it and click Screen options and enable accessibility mode and you can manually work the widgets.

    I have been experiencing the same problem–unable to move sidebar widgets. Similarly, I was unable to move Dashboard modules/widgets.

    After reading this post (thank you all), I was able to identify the culprit in my case as the WP Events Calendar plugin. I have several plugins installed, but I’ve isolated the issue to that one alone–in my case. I’ve got a couple of other WordPress installations that I manage, and the few with this plugin are having the same problem. Those without it are working normally.

    None of the other solutions seemed to work for me. Enable Accessibility Mode had no effect whatsoever. I think the WP Events Calendar is a great plugin, and I would recommend it over other calendars I’ve tried. I just hope the developers are able to track down the source of this problem.
