    Hi,

    I have an issue with importing a wpress-file. It uploads 100% and then it says “Unable to import – Unable to open file for reading.”

    I have never had this issue before. My hostingprovider Misshosting is supported by you. I’ve increased the max_time and size.

    What to do?

    I’d like to say that I only use this plugin of All-in-one(s) and I didn’t delete anything but install the given extension.

    So my process was just installing the “basic download” by downloading from here: https://import.wp-migration.com/ and using the ‘add new plugin’ feature of WordPress.

    I then proceed to upload the copy and it worked 100%.

    Another vote for @flinty2000 ‘s solution, this has solved so many issues I experienced. Nice one, thanks!

    unable to open file for reading facing this error. i also have tried the method of installing this plugin https://import.wp-migration.com/ there is a limitation in this plugin i cant upload file more than 512 mbs. whats the solution now.

    I have also facing same problem in my localhost when I tried to import my live site .

    @hemav and anyone finding this in 2021 or later, looks like they’ve taken down the Basic link mentioned in @flinty2000 ‘s solution, but it can stil be accessed if you use waybackmachine (google it) to access an older version of the site, (2020 or earlier). Worked for me.

    So I created an account just to reply here.

    I also followed flintys solution, but the basic plugin needed is no longer possible to download from the site mentioned.

    Either you can do as intercision said and go to waybackmachine, or you can download it from here:

    I saved and hosted it on my own server for future use, thought I’d save someone the trouble and share.
