    Hi all,

I have read most similar topics on this forum and done some probable solution suggested but still the problem persist.

    – deactivate all plugins
    – created new admin user
    – switch to twenty eleven theme

My specific problem description is, I am not able to publish/edit post which contains HTML tags in it. I am using the HTML editor, not the visual editor. I am only able to publish if there is no HTML tag included. I did not do any changes to the core or theme files. The problem came suddenly. Please help.

Would you please describe what happens when you try? Do you see any errors?

    Hi James,

No errors or warnings. When I try to publish a post with HTML tags, it will redirect me to my homepage instead of post.php.

    Huh, that’s rather strange.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting https://whatbrowser.org/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

    Hi James,

Tried all your suggestions but the problem still persist.

Is it possible that wp core files are corrupted?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Possible, yes, let’s try that next.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Hi James,

Did exactly as suggested by you but it still doesn’t solve the problem. The weird thing is, I can publish when I move everything to my local machine.

Perhaps the problem is caused by my hosting provider? Is this possible?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

That’s what I’m thinking at this point too, they might have mod_security set too aggressively, and it’s thinking whatever HTML you’re trying is a hack attempt.

Have you contacted them about this?

    Hi James,

You’re right! The mod_security setting in my hosting server is the cause of the problem. A simple solution to a few days worth of problem.

    Thank you!

    You’re welcome!
