Hi. A couple a weeks ago Matomo disappeared spontaneously from the installed plugins (before the last Matomo update). I have reinstalled it several times using different installation options, deleted it, reinstalled etc. but I can’t get it working anymore. The plugin is visible and installed, but when I try to “Get started” nothing happens and after a while the browser gives a proxy error. ” The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request. Reason:?Error reading from remote server
Any thoughts on what causes this problem and how to resolve this

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I’m having the exact same issue and error (Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request Reason: Error reading from remote server matomo)

After the update, Matomo keeps loading when I try to open the Summary or any other Matomo option from the WordPress dashboard and then after a while I get the proxy error .

This seems to be a bug introduced in 4.13.4.

For the time being I’ve resolved this by rolling back to 4.13.3 from here https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/matomo/advanced/ But that’s on your own risk.

Hope this helps for the time being and hopefully the dev team will look into this and join this thread.

@schaipau was the issue fixed after changing the wp-config.php file? If not that doesn’t fix the issue, can you please switch the php version to 7.* or 8.1.

    (@schaipau)

@emermatomo it looks like it is working. I can access the menu items under Matomo. However there is still the message “There are some errors in the?Matomo Diagnostics System report?that may prevent the plugin for working normally.” I will try if it works normally or after using php 8.1 tomorrow. Thanks for your support so far.

@emermatomo I am reluctant to switch to php 8.1 because other plugin’s might cause problems. My current PHP version 8.027 meets the Matomo requirements according the website. I have downgraded matomo version to 4.13.3. Although the diagnostics is not opening (I have removed matomo save mode in wp-config), the other options do. Are there any new insights for this problem.

    Plugin Support emermatomo

    (@emermatomo)

Hi @schaipau Sorry for the late response. If it’s working, there is no need to switch your php version. The errors you have in php log files are “normal”. It will disappear in the next published release.

    Thread Starter schaipau

    (@schaipau)

@emermatomo. I have updated to the latest version. It did not resolve my problem. I now get an E_ERROR. I had no access anymore to my WordPress site. After fixing this. Non of the Matomo menu items work. WordPress shows a critical error page. I can’t make a system report. Even with the matomo save mode line in WP-config file.

@schaipau?I just saw your response on the other thread and replied to it. Is it possible to ask your hosting provider to back up your site first before updating the php version? If it caused an issue after updating it, you can simply revert it using the backup.

@emermatomo. After some months I have just installed php 8.1 and updated Matomo v13 to the latest version. Unfortunately the problem still exists.

I have downgraded now again to 4.13.3
    with MATOMO_SAFE_MODE = true

With this version I can still use Matomo functionality without WordPress error message.
But still with the PHP Cli Version compatibility error “Your PHP cli version is not compatible with the %s. Please upgrade your PHP cli version, otherwise, you might have some archiving errors” and MSQLi load error. “Your PHP cli does not load the MySQLi extension. You might have archiving problems in Matomo but also others problems in your WordPress cron tasks. You should enable this extension.
According to my phpinfo.php file the extension is loaded.

@schaipau Thank you for keeping us updated. To fix the php cli version error, could you please follow the troubleshooting steps on this guide: https://matomo.org/faq/how-to-solve-the-error-message-your-php-cli-version-is-not-compatible-with-the-matomo-requirements/

I hope that helps. Please let us know how it goes.

@emermatomo. I have checked my PHP 8.1.21 – phpinfo.ini file and found “Configuration File (php.ini) Path” = /opt/RZphp81/etc. Assuming that the location of the php.ini file is the CLI path. After adding php_binary_path=”/opt/RZphp81/etc” in the config.ini.php file and flushing the cache, it was still not working. So I am not 100% sure if the CLI path is right. Do you have any knowledge about the phpinfo file and if it contains the CLI path?
