Unable to restrict media file access

  • I have several pdf files on my website, and I have tried using the UM restrict access option. However, the files are still accessible without signing in. Would love any help on this!

    Unfortunately, Ultimate member won’t restrict access to the files on your server.
    These files can be accessed via direct link.

    Any pointers on how to do that? It seems pretty unsafe.

    same question as nkubz. Nothing has worked for me. I’ve tried several WP plugins, .htaccess, Ultimate Member settings, etc. Ridiculous. My only idea is to jumble the URL horribly, but this won’t stop Google crawlers from accessing it. WTF! Is there actually no way to upload pictures to your website without making them public? I am so confused.

    For example is there a way with htaccess to check if the person is a member or not? I am new to wordpress so this is probably a really dumb question! I was able to prohibit viewing of the media files with htaccess, but then members couldn’t view the files either.
