One of my blogs won’t let me in. I forgot pass, asked it to email it, but I’m not sure which email it went to. I checked almost all. Is there a file I can edit to change the registered email of the admin? Or which file holds the listed email? I went through a few (config, settings) to no avail.

Ok tomorrow is plugins after replacing functions file. If no go then themes. If no go I’ll check error logs. If nothing shows then reinstalling but for two files. I can backup files but db? Only know how via plugin not via PHPMyAdmin.

Backup, rename, reinstall. One step at a time

    Thank you

Happy squirrel dance! Uploaded old functions.php file, site is back. Loaded emergency.php and it shows. Logged into admin easily. I wanted to update and thank you before I reset the pass but I don’t need to.

WHEW. One friggin’ file broke everything. I’m still on my host to check the mail function not working on the server.

    Again, my thanks

Excellent news! Yeah, it’s more like “one comma or semi-colon in one file” breaks everything. Happy you’re back in business. And, you’re welcome.

Went to post and site is blank. All white pages/

    Well that’s not good.

Use ftp or your host’s file manager to disable plugins and your current theme as per the instructions above. If it clears up, you know it’s one of those and you can start weeding them out.

If that doesn’t fix it, I’d get a fresh start with a fresh install of WP, again as per instructions above. Remember not to touch wp-config and wp-content (re-read the details from earlier). Delete files before replacing them, to be sure all goes as expected.

These are big chunks, but it will make it easier in the long run to narrow things down. Good luck.

Emailed my host to check access logs. ” it should be working now.” No explanation of error, nothing. Emailed back but they generally don’t answer back. Thanks again

Three days later they answered, half-assed:

it was down due to a problem with a backup plugin you had installed in wordpress which I had to deactivate to fix it.

Error logs are filled with three plugins giving errors: BackupWordPress, HotKeys and I can’t remember the last

Hope that means everything is back up for good, finally!
