Unable to send via 3rd party

This just started happening recently, maybe with upgrading WP to v4.0 (Not entirely sure) but heres whats happening:
I have an external SMTP setup through Mandrill which was all sending correctly, now when I try to send I get an error stating could not authenticate after checking all details I finally had a look at my server logs which show that Mailpoet is attempting to send through the local smtp server rather than the specified SMTP Hostname and since the credentials set for Mandrill dont exist on the local SMTP it is flagging as a brute force hack attempt ??
