Unable to stop comments from closing

    I’ve tried to find this one, but maybe I’m the only one with the problem?

    In the last few months, I’ve noticed that my blog seems to randomly close comments, as if I had set the “automatically close comments after X days”, which I don’t. When I look in the DB, the comment_status has all entries updated to “closed”. I have no idea what’s setting these. I have to do an update statement to change them all back to “open”.

    I thought this might be a plugin, but I couldn’t figure out which one it might be.

    Anyone else seen this?

  • Yes, I have! It’s incredibly annoying. I’ve asked this same question on the forum and have noticed some others are having the same problem but I can’t find any response. I really wish WordPress would address this issue because it’s becoming a real problem to go back and edit each single post every time this happens.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    On my blog, I think I narrowed it down to WP SuperCache. Why it was closing ’em, I have no idea. But with it disabled (and only that), the problem’s gone away.

    For now, anyway…

    I had WP SuperCache deactivated but I’ve totally uninstalled it now (I think, that’s a big difficult). I’ll see if that works. If not, I’ll try deactivating the rest of the plugins.

    The TwentyTen theme looks like one to check out. Running Thesis now but maybe it’s time for a change.
