Unable to switch to visual mode, stuck in html

I recently updated wordpress and installed a new theme- modern blogger pro on genesis platform. This is an html5 and mobile responsive theme. A couple issues i have just noticed;

1. I am unable to switch to the visual editor, and it is stuck in Html (text mode)

2. I am unable to add in any media to the post

I have tried switching to a twenty-twelve theme and that did not resolve the issue, same problem.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
