Unable to type new post on visual tab – toolbar missing

  • Logged in to my site today, and found that when I try to type a new post, I can enter the title, but am unable to type the body of the post while on the Visual tab and the toolbar is missing. If I switch to Text, the text toolbar is there, and I can type and save a post.

    The add media button is fine while on the Visual tab, as are all other post functions such as category, tags etc. I just cant type in the post body.

    I mentioned this to a friend and he tried to log in to his wordpress site, and discovered he has the same issue. He has the same version of wordpress, but different plugins and a different theme. Both of us use chrome, but have also tried firefox. Neither work. Both browsers are on the latest version.

    I can get it to work in IE, and my friend can get it to work in Safari.

    I don’t log in to the site every day, maybe once a week. Nothing has changed since my last login that I am aware of, and it was fine then.

    Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Tried that and the problem still exists.

    Someone with a different theme and plugins is having the exact same issue bizarrely, so I already suspected it wasnt the theme or plugins.

    It seems to be a browser issue. It appears that Chrome is the only browser doing this now. I have the latest version. Not sure if they have updated in the last few days, but I guess I will have to either stick to using the Text tab, or use IE *shudders*

    A quick note, just because someone else with different plugins/theme has the same problem, doesn’t mean that different plugins/theme aren’t causing the same problem. ??

    So, assuming you did test with all plugins off and the theme switched to Twenty Fifteen, first please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting https://whatbrowser.org/

    If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

    If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
