I finally decided to try my luck with the new version and it shows this error (translation might not be accurate)

Unable to install because some files couldn’t be copied. It is normally due to inconsistent file permissions.

    And then a long list of files: wpml-config.xml, cli, cli/class-cli-redirect-upsell-command-namespace.php, cli/class-cli-yoast-command-namespace.php, images, images/question-mark.png, images/brushstroke_background.svg, images/local_plugin_assistant.svg, images/Yoast_SEO_Icon.svg, images/newsletter-collage.png, images/error-icon.svg etc etc

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Will it work if I upload the plugin by FTP? Does anyone know?

    Hello @subpopet

Yes, please. Updating via FTP is an option and your existing SEO data and settings will remain intact.

    Does it work?

I did it and it worked but somehow the admin keeps telling me to update the plugin. If I try to do it again, it says it couldn’t delete the old version

@subpopet We are sorry to hear about your troubles in updating the plugin. Make sure you have the correct permissions to be able to delete the old Yoast folder from your server and upload a new one. Your web host should be able to assist you with the correct permissions.

I renamed the old one and uploaded the new one. Is wordpress unable to delete the old one because of the permissions or does it check the last updated version somewhere? (maybe it’s stored in the DB, I don’t know)

    Hi @subpopet

Can you please go to /wp-content/plugins/ and make sure that there is a single /wordpress-seo/ directory?

If the issue persists, it’s possible that the previous plugin files were not overwritten. Please delete the directory via FTP and re-install the plugin.

    The copy was called wordpress-seo_bak

Once deleted, the admin didn’t ask me to update the plugin anymore
