I get this message if updating a product that is excluded from sync

“This product belongs to a category or tag that is excluded from the Facebook catalogue sync. It will not sync to Facebook.

To sync this product to Facebook, click Go to Settings and remove the category or tag exclusion or click Cancel and update the product’s category / tag assignments.”

I don’t want to include it in the sync, that’s the whole point of excluding it. So now I cannot update any of my products in other categories unless I first deactivate the Facebook plugin.

Any thoughts on how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi @sapper310,

Thanks for reaching out. Happy to help you with this!

I’m sorry to hear that the plugin is keeping you from saving your products. This is a known issue that should have been fixed with version 2.0.5 of the plugin.

Would you please make sure that the plugin is up-to-date and that you’ve cleared/disabled any caching plugins or browser extensions and give it another shot? If it still doesn’t work, I’m happy to take a closer look!

    Thanks,
    Marcus

Hi Marcus, thanks for your reply.

Yes I have version 2.0.5 installed and I don’t have any caching plugins or extensions installed in my browser. I have also tried it in 2 different browsers.

The only other thing I can add is that if I first save a product to a category that is synced to facebook I can then use quick edit to change just the product category without having to disable the Facebook plugin.

    Hi @sapper310,

Thank you for letting me know that the plugin is all up-to-date. I ran a few different tests and I think I see the issue you’re running into.

When adding a product to a category that is excluded, you must also change your Facebook settings for the product (either under the “Facebook” tab for simple products, or under each variation for variable products) to also be set to “Do Not Sync”.

By default, your product’s category will want to exclude the product while the Facebook sync setting for the product will want to include it.

I’ll definitely make a note here to make sure we’re more clear on the messaging. In the meantime, would you please try adding a product to an excluded category and make sure it is set to “Do Not Sync” before saving and see if that works for you?

    Thanks,
    Marcus

Ah! yes I understand and you are correct I haven’t changed the Facebook settings (pilot error). Now resolved and functioning as it should.

    Thanks Marcus,

    best wishes,

    Hey John – @sapper310,

Thank you for confirming this for me. Though it may have been an oversight, it’s definitely something that we’ll want to make sure is more obvious, so thank you for bringing it to our attention!

I’m going to mark this topic as resolved, but if you experience any other issues, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

    Thanks,
    Marcus
