Unable to update any plugins

  • Hello I’ve been trying to crack this issue for quite some time but am unable to figure this out. The issue being that I’m unable to update any plugins.

    Example:

    Downloading update from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/akismet.3.1.5.zip…

Unpacking the update…

Could not copy file. akismet/class.akismet-widget.php

    I have Ubuntu 14.04 server running with Apache2. I have all files set to 644 and folders to 755. I have wp-content set to www-data:www-data and the rest set to <user>:www-data. This configuration has always worked on custom sites but not on wordpress.

    I am updating plugins through SSH using a private key (I don’t see why I need to use FTP, too unsecure).

    Could anyone give me any ideas on what should I try to fix this issue?
