• A WP update in December broke my ability to update things automatically from the dashboard.

At that time, even the ability to update WP was broken. Someone posted a single line of code to change on one of the files. After doing that I was able to update WP to the latest version.

But I am still unable to update plugins the way I could for at least two years. I can install NEW plugins just fine.

I have checked, double-checked, and triple-checked the folder permissions on my server. They are 755.

I did nothing on my server that would lead me to believe it’s a server issue.

When I try to update, I’m told the old plugin could not be removed.

An error occurred while updating: Could not remove the old plugin.

I found a suggestion to add FTP credentials to the config file. I did that, and also installed the Background Update Tester. This tester shows my configuration PASSES all three of the listed criteria.

Yet the same errors continue to happen.

This is a Mac OS server version 10.8.

    Any suggestions?
