• I upgraded to 4.2 without any issues. But then I went to try and update my plugs that said they needed updating (JetPack and Contact form). I picked the ones to update, got taken to the ftp info page (which looked very weird), I entered the info and then I get taken to the next page like normal, but all that shows is:

    “The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.

    Enabling Maintenance mode…”

    It never progresses beyond there and the plugins won’t update. Any ideas?

    (For what it’s worth, I was able to update the themes.)

    The official fix for this will be rolled into 4.2…

    https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/32135

    hi

    I will update version 4.2.1 and tells me the error

    Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 248512512) (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /home/notiespa/public_html/wp-includes/compat.php on line 49

    when public input

    I hope your help

    Thank you, worked for me as well.

    This trick also helped with updating WordPress from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
    I have a problem on updating WP to version 4.2.1.
    Before apdating, I deactivated all plug-ins that were active. Then I did the upgrade; After that I activated back those plug-ins.

    I got the following message:
    Warning: printf() [function.printf]: Argument number must be greater than zero in /home/storage/c/8b/ef/fce/public_html/wp-admin/includes/update.php on line 289

    It appears just bellow each of several plug-ins, some of which were active and others that were inactive before the update.

    For example, among inactive ones, are: Breadcrumb Trail; WP-Print; Search & Replace; Spread.ly for WordPress. Active ones are: Formidable; TablePress; WP-Manager.

    Is there a bug in 4.2.1 tha causes the warning? Should I go back to the previous version?

    Thank you for any help.

    Yes, line fix 149 worked for me too!

    Hi,
    regarding my post above I would like to add that lines 288 through 290 of file /home/storage/c/8b/ef/fce/public_html/wp-admin/includes/update.php read:

    288 } else {

    289 printf( __( ‘There is a new version of %1$s available. View version %4$s details or update now.’ ), $plugin_name, esc_url( $details_url ), esc_attr( $plugin_name ), $r->new_version, wp_nonce_url( self_admin_url( ‘update.php?action=upgrade-plugin&plugin=’ ) . $file, ‘upgrade-plugin_’ . $file ) );

    290 }

    Aparently the site is working, but I am not sure the site is fully working for I could not perform a comprehensive analysis.

    I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

    Lovely that these tips work for everyone but not for me, so thought I’d share. I couldn’t update my plugins (Jetpack and SEO Yoast) after update to WP 4.2. I de-activated all plugins and tried to update while deactivated. I also tried the modification to wp-admin/includes/file.php via
    https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/32135.

    What I ended up doing – deleting the two problematic plugins and manually re-adding them. Now I’m good to go.

    Tryed this solution, on my websites (hosted on Microsfot Azure), but plugin update failed… ??
    Any other suggestion is accepted

    After a week of dealing with this problem and looking for solutions, I tried the fix suggested here and unfortunately it didn’t work…(also deactivated plugins.)
    I’ve already upgraded PHP memory limit to 256 at the beginning of the php file. Didn’t help. Before the upgrade the problem was in line 155, after upgraded it moved to error in line 159.
    Getting this message

    Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 261904 bytes) in … file.php on line 159

    Lost cause? Should I just wait for the next update?

    I have patched my site with the line 149 hack but still having an issue with a plugin.

    I am using the Brick theme which requires the “WPBakery Visual Composer” which seems to actually be called “js_composer” when installed — but when it’s installed I get errors:

    [Mon May 04 13:21:22 2015] [error] [client elided] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function filter_var() in /…pathto…/vhosts/myhost.com/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/include/classes/shortcodes/shortcodes.php on line 290

    I’ve uninstalled it for now but the theme is just limping along.

    What a disastrous update, all in all. More coffee is needed over there in WP land.

    I can’t even get to my plugins since yesterday. When I try to manage my plugins, it flashes me to this message -“Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”

    I do not know code at all so any help would be appreciated.

    Humblekeyz.com

    I have updated to 4.2.1. When I try to do updates on a plugin it sits there and says “Updating… ” and doesn’t do anything from there. If I refresh the page, the plugin appears to be updated now. I’m not sure what is happening there. There are no errors in my server logs. I didn’t know if anyone else is having this issue.
