• I upgraded to 4.2 without any issues. But then I went to try and update my plugs that said they needed updating (JetPack and Contact form). I picked the ones to update, got taken to the ftp info page (which looked very weird), I entered the info and then I get taken to the next page like normal, but all that shows is:

    “The update process is starting. This process may take a while on some hosts, so please be patient.

    Enabling Maintenance mode…”

    It never progresses beyond there and the plugins won’t update. Any ideas?

    (For what it’s worth, I was able to update the themes.)

  • Ibeetles have you checked with your hosting company which version of PHP they are using?
    Mine was on 5.3 and I had all those problems with the plugins not working, then they upgraded to 5.4 and it all worked again.

    It needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
    Right now on one localhost website:

    – First plugin updates fast (plugin list)
    – Second and others errors
    – Refresh whole page
    – Second plugin updates fast, third error
    – Etc…etc..

    It makes huge problem for beginners, because they dont know how to delete maintenance file from root, when update fail.

    Actually I would be very suprised if they ever heard about this file.

    After upgrading to 4.2.2 non of my plugins were visible via the admin panel, running PHP 5.4. I’ve tried all the suggested fixes in this thread with no luck. Seems like a rather big bug.

    Help oh WP Gods?

    Can you give a screenshot ? What do you see ?

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

    Destination folder already exists. /home/content/p3pnexwpnas09_data02/34/2619834/html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/

    Plugin install failed.

    To let the community know, problem solved. The issue was malware in all the .php file headers, including the plugins. I had to replace all my plugins and then update WP to 4.2.2.

    Good luck all.

    Today i’ve updated WP https://zastepczy.org from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2, after update i can’t upload photos…i’ve checked chmod and everythings seems to be all right…it has worked before update…. now i only get error: Error writing medium as an attachment.

    This fix doesn’t work for me,
    I have an Installation on Windows Server and was working fine until 4.2.2
    I couldn’t install or upgrade plugins.

    After read those entire posts in this foro,
    I decided to comment whole the recursive call:

    // If the folder is falsey, use it's parent directory name instead
    	/*if ( ! $temp_filename ) {
    		return wp_tempnam( dirname( $filename ), $dir );
    	}*/

    I don’t know how it affect the rest of functions but after this upgrade, the instalations and upgrade plugins worked.

    Please, I am open to change, if there is other solution

    Issues are difficult enough to resolve in clear threads where there can be a discussion with one person only. This thread is ridiculously difficult to support because there’d have to be a hundred discussions going on at once.

    I advise any one who is looking for support to create their own threads: https://www.ads-software.com/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting#postform

    Better not to wait until it’s got this bad to do so.
