When I try and update the Theme Footer I get this error.

Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.

I was able to update this prior to updating WordPress.

I have tried de-activating all plugins this has not resolved it.

I am using a lightsail Bitnami instance on AWS. I have 4 other instances that all now have the same error when trying to update the Theme Footer.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Where did you download this theme from? If it is a non-WPORG theme, you will need to seek support from the theme’s developers – paid or otherwise. Your best bet is always your product’s developer, so we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.

That’s a normal error after upgrading, I had the same.

    if i replace
    wp-admin/theme-editor.php
    wp-admin/includes/file.php
With the same named files from build 4.8.3

    it works fine.

    Good luck!

    if i replace

Never do this! Swapping core scripts in/out can bring down your entire site and/or open security holes for hackers to use.

    Thank you for responses.

I found another thread and installed a Theme Editor Plugin and I can now edit and save the Footer.php.

Very relieved. I had a number of sites affected and have fixed them all now.

    Thanks again.
