• I have a website hosted with Hostgator India.
    I went into the File Manager in cPanel and instead of deleting the files from domain directory, I deleted files from the home directory.

    Then I had issues with adding email accounts and hostgator support added “etc” folder and I was able to add email accounts.

    Now I have issues with updating themes, plugins and uploading media. below are the errors i receive:

    While updating plugins:
    ==================================
    Downloading update from https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/akismet.3.1.3.zip…

    Warning: touch(): Unable to create file /tmp/akismet.3.1.3.tmp because No such file or directory in /home/pkpix9md/public_html/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 164

    Warning: unlink(/tmp/akismet.3.1.3.tmp): No such file or directory in /home/pkpix9md/public_html/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 464
    An error occurred while updating Akismet: Download failed. Could not open handle for fopen() to /tmp/akismet.3.1.3.tmp

    When Installing new Plugins:

    When Installing Themes:
    ==================================

  • Have you tried re-installing WordPress in the updates page?

    Hellow Matthew,

    Yes I did; actually Hostgator was able to resolve issues with updating or installing themes and plugins. But anything that involves uploading (uploading themes and media) didn’t work with an error “Missing a temporary folder.” Hostgator has been trying to resolve this since 2 days.

    I read somewhere and gave 7 7 7 permission to public_html/wp-content/uploads folder and created tmp and wwwtmp in public_html with 7 7 7 permission. It didn’t help.

    Later, I re-installed wp and I had all the issues again

    Have you tried uploading your file.php straight into the /home/pkpix9md/public_html/wp-admin/includes/?

    I have the same issue, I tried to reinstall wordpress and also uploading the file straight into the folder and didn’t work either. Thank you

    The background image that I uploaded wont show up on my new page. HELPPP

    If it is hepful for someone, I got the solution deleting this line from wp-config

    define( 'WP_TEMP_DIR', ABSPATH . 'wp-content/tmp/') ;

    I don’t know why it was there, but for me it works.

    @amanduky: Thanks for the solution. Glad we were able to solve this.

    @pavankp: Have you tried @amanduky solution? Or have you figured something else out?

    @gary escoe: Please post your own support topic.

    I have not tried that and I will probably go ahead and have the purchase refunded. no one from this company has responded and I am loosing revenue.
    Thanx
