unable to upload any media/posts/products

my page operates fine on the front end, however on the back end i have a serious problem..
when i choose to add new media, a new post or a new product, and i click on “add new” it brings me to the page but loads nothing below the title of the page. there’s no drag and drop box for media as there used to be, and nothing at all below the titles for “new post” or “new product”
at the top of my back end page it also says “an automated wordpress update has failed to complete.” I attempt to update and re-install WP but it just puts my site into maintenance mode and seems to do nothing else. this is the only error code i receive
