Hi we are running WP 4.7.2, with Events calendar 4.4.1.1. Once a month I use the import feature to load the next month’s Venues and Events for our blood drives. This time when I try I receive the message ‘Sorry this file type is not permitted for security reasons’. I can not load either Venues.csv or Events.csv.

We were automatically upgraded to WP 4.7.2 a few weeks ago. And after receiving the above message I upgraded to the next/latest version of Events calendar (4.4.1.1).

Any ideas/hints? Our site was developed by another group and our company pretty much just takes care of adding pages and events. So no changes code-wise have occurred….

    Thanks,
    John

  • I’ve also just encountered this issue with my site. I was automatically upgraded to the latest WP version, and my plugin is up-to-date. From what I can tell it’s a problem with WP itself not accepting the files, so they can’t be uploaded for the plugin to use.

I experience the same issue. I’m not able to upload .csv files in the media-library.

I tried this solution, but it doesn’t work:

    Hi all,

Thanks for reaching out–so sorry to hear that you’re all having trouble with your CSV file imports! This problem has been known to occur with improperly-encoded CSV files that are saved by certain applications. Some users have found success importing their CSV files into a new Google spreadsheet, then exporting that spreadsheet back out as a new CSV file and importing the file without opening it. Give it a try, and let us know if this process should allow your new CSV files to import properly!

    Thank you!

I will give you a bit more information what i did so far. I downloaded the sample .csv files provided in this document. I used LibeOffice Calc 5.1.5.2 to open the csv and add new entrys. I saved it as csv and tried to upload -> doesn’t work. A few weeks ago this worked on another page perfectly.

Okay, now i tried your solution and it doesn’t work either.

Also i changed the file encoding form “WinLatin” to “UTF-8” -> doesn’t work.

There is always an error during upload saying “Sorry this file type is not permitted for security reasons”

I think it has something to do with the new wordpress version denying to upload .csv for the plugin to use.

To follow up on jimmythejam’s attempts, I just tried uploading the sample venues file provided by the knowledgebase site (https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/csv-files-options-and-examples/) and could not. “Sorry this file type is not permitted for security reasons”

Each month since May 2015 I’ve used the same process. The list is created in an Excel (2010) spreadsheet, and then saved as a *CSV file. Pretty standard. I also tried uploading an older file that had previously been added without issue, but again received the error. Something recent is preventing the upload of *csv files…

    Thanks,

Quick follow-up: I created a text file and saved it as a *CSV using Windows notepad. It consisted of the following:

    Field1,Field2,Field3,Field4,Field5
    alpha,beta,gamma,delta,epsilon
    one,two,three,four,five
    AAA,BBB,CCC,DDD,EEE

It too failed to upload to the media library. “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.”

However…. I found that if I place a .txt extension to my original .csv files, THEN it let me load them to the Media Library, and subsequently I was able to use those to import this month’s venues (groups) and events (blood drives).

So changing the extension to .txt allowed me to load/import the data files. I then need to access the main Media Library to see/remove them (since the Events Calendar piece of that just shows files with a *CSV extension.

It would appear there is something in the latest version of WP (4.7.2) which does not like files with a .csv extension….

    Hi all,

Thanks so much for taking the time to investigate this problem further! This does appear to be a documented bug in the latest versions of WordPress, which is slated to be fixed in version 4.7.3. This link provides some more information, as well as a temporary workaround that should hopefully address the issue until it’s properly fixed.

Thanks again for bringing this problem to our attention–we appreciate it, and we’ll be sure to follow up if we should receive any updates on our end! ??

Still not working for me and I’m on 4.7.3

I have uploaded the CSV using FTP and it now shows in the Media Browser but Events Calendar still can’t find it
