unable to upload images

  • when I try and upload an image I receive the following error

    /hsphere/local/home/bruceg/inspired-evolution.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    is this a problem with the hosting company not allowing the directory to be writable? I am using an external server to host wordpress.

  • Supposedly the 1st time you upload, the wp-content directory needs to be chmod 777 – after that it’s supposed to work normally at 755. Many users report having to leave it at 777 to work.
