Unable to upload media in wordpress?

  • After five gruelling hours, I found one solution to this error message for people using MAMP.
    “Unable to create directory [HD]/[site]/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/09. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
    Note: I am using a Mac computer, MAMP Pro and WP 3.4.
    Solution: In MAMP click HOSTS, in general settings click PERMISSIONS, at the top of the new dialogue box that opens there are options for OWNER and options for GROUP. Under OWNER options I set it to _WWW. Finally I clicked SET.

    I can now upload pictures via the wp media panel. However, I have no idea about the consequences of what I have done, i.e. whether I have created a security issue for myself. I will look into this another day.
