    Hey.

For some reason, it doesn’t work for me to upload featured images on wordpress. I get the following error: “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”.

Here is what I have tried/checked:

    – File permission is set to 755
    – I have tried to disable all plugins
    – I have tried large, medium and small photos
    – I have disabled ImageMagick

    Nothing worked.

The weird thing is that the file I attempt to upload gets successfully uploaded to the server, which I can see by accessing the ftp server. Because of that, I am guessing the error comes from the process of resizing the image or something similar (just an unqualified guess).

    Can anyone help me?

    – check your uploads path in Dashboard > Settings > Media, make sure it’s not pointing to a different path . . . normally this would be blank.
    – confirm that the wp-content/uploads directory and those files exist.
    – Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777.
    – Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again (very important for security reasons!) and check that everything still works OK
    – If the above steps do not help, try switching to the default Twenty Fifteen theme with ALL plugins off.

when I try to upload a photo, I get the error mentioned before, but the image does get successfully uploaded to the following folder: /wp-content/uploads/2015/03

That makes me believe the issue is not with permissions on the server. I have however tried various permissions, including 777. All with the same result.

I guess I can try the default theme.

Yeah same problem happened with my website.
    What I did was

Updated the wordpress again by : Dashboard -> Updates and click on Re-install Now.

Also try disabling your plugins one by one and later enable them after you find out which plugin is causing the problem.

PS: The files you uploaded will be uploaded. Only the thing is you won’t be able to see the thumbnail of the picture and you can’t use them inside your posts. To check this you can search the file name in media gallery.

re-installing wordpress from dashboard fixed it for me.
